Finding Solace With Rock Garden Fountains

By Larry Peterson

No matter what job or obligations you have, we are all surrounded by the stresses and strains of modern life. Because of all the technology available to us, it can feel like we should always be doing something, making it impossible to relax. Setting up an area in your home and using calming tools such as rock garden fountains, helps to give yourself the permission to relax.

A water feature is an ideal addition to this space. Water is renowned as a calming sound and for anyone who struggles with silence it can be just the addition needed, breaking up the silence without adding to the constant chattering of the outside world. Add one to your place of solace, whether that is indoors or outside and tune in to the peaceful sound of rushing water.

One thing that is rarely found on our neverending to do lists is time out. Our own clarity and wellbeing is essential to ensure the smooth running of everything else, and yet we never prioritise this need. You only need to give yourself five to ten minutes a day, to just sit and breathe and block out the outside world and you will feel a benefit quickly.

A reading nook or den can be an excellent addition to the area. Don't fill it with unrealistic expectations and books you've been meaning to read but don't actually want to as this can cause stress and make you feel even more pressured. Fill it with books you are excited to read, so that everytime you see the nook you can't wait to get in there and have some time to yourself.

Yoga has become a trendy form of exercise, but in its essence, it is about finding a moment of peace and establishing balance between the body and mind. Giving yourself a few minutes to practise yoga can be hugely beneficial, whether you sit and follow breathing exercises or do a few stress releasing poses.

Don't feel like you need to exclude your children from the area. It is a space for peace and quiet and renewal and this is also an important lesson for kids to learn. Bring them into the space and make them feel welcome, but explain to them what the space is for. This way they will be able to use the space when they need it too.

This applies to adults who are in need too. The space is your own, but if there is someone who is struggling, share it with them and they might learn that it is something they need to set up for themselves too. Bring them in at a time that suits you and just sit peacefully or talk, but maintain an atmosphere of calm and quietness.

They say home is where the heart is, but really home is whatever you make it. If you set it up as a place of high energy, constant movement and stress, this is what you will feel there. If you establish it as a place of calm, peace, love and relaxation this is what you will feel, as well as everyone else who joins you in the space.
