The tufting process was invented back the 1950s. It entails using needles to attach fiber filaments onto a fabric backing. To hasten the process, several needles are used at the same time. The spools are then placed under heat to form the twisted shape.

A carpet of fake turf is made when the yarn is fed into a tufting machine. The carpet is made to pass through a special dispenser that is used to coat the underside with latex. A marriage roller is used to sandwich and seal the two coatings into a single item.

After the sealing the latex has to be cured using heat lamps. Production of artificial turf is almost finished at this stage. The last step entails making a uniform turf by clipping off any long tufts. After this, the product is packed and readied for shipment to various destinations.

Part of the installation process entails leveling the soil on the site the product is supposed to be installed. This is followed by smoothing of the site by use of a steam roller. Preparation of the site should incorporate drainage system. With proper installation, the product can last for many years. Durability can be improved through occasional maintenance and repair.
